1400 photos, 750 km, 60 h on bicycle, 20 h ferry, 11 days on the Road, 9 tube changes, 4 peoples, one Island …hugh mass of adventures and situations. For real whole spectrum of emotions. Great experience for all of us what we can tolerate, how we react in stressful situations, how easy we cooperate and do we enjoy only the road in the same way. Amazing life “on the road”, where is no usual worries and we live in some other world in which this real one is just from time to time smiling to us out of newspapers, people we met somewhere or text messages from “normal” world. Wonderful steppingstone to reset yourself and make some thoughts.
Whole trip changed into one big social and psychologic experiment thanks to meeting each other 4 extremely different characters:P I’m no longer surprised by 2-3 months long trip relations like ours – that is how it should look like! That is why separately from thousands of others plans I decided to travel whole Scandinavia by bicycle with maybe some breaks for Alps or going around British Isles. Just today some friend wrote to me with desire to take a part in trip like that next year (he loves Norway so we can cycle by Swedish west coast to Oslo and from there to my destination – famous Trollstigen route, how about this?). What is really important I want to make those trips more sporty which mean minimum average speed at 18 km/h and 100 km per day as the lower bottom line. About whole details we’ll talk when something really serious will be on my mind. Everything depends also at money and will my financial pyramid collapse like Madoff’s or maybe won’t;)
Back to reality began with very positive Louis Armstrong song What a Wonderful World played by captain to wake up all passengers at ferry to Gdynia in Poland. Warm and nice bed, Polish Hel peninsula behind the window but we don’t want to get out of beds – now we are feeling that only way back home left really. Now we will try to live through this adventure again by writing about every single day and include some photos and map into report.
It was well known that many decisions about route and places to stay will be made during the route, that is why there are some changes – we get around Öland by making big 8 which was closed two days before we left the island. Borgholm was the reason – we’ve crossed island to stay in one of the biggest campsites and with a plan to stay there one day more to take some rest and see the town. That is why we get to northern part of Öland by cycling at the western coast.
We tracked nearly whole route using GPS, there are only two few kilometers long missing parts. Solar panel couldn’t produce enough energy so we had to charge our phones at campsites, which was fabulous places and I will write about it a little bit more. Now I know that I have to purchase some bigger battery in which energy will last for at least two-three days of GPS and GSM module work. There was no possibility of taking laptop computer – no place to hide it and no time to write some bigger notes. I have to get bicycle bags for the front wheel to “buy” some space more;) I hope so that I will be able to publish something directly from the road someday;)
I couldn’t create one big map with all of tracked routes – Google Maps can’t import so many .kml files. But I will try to put some interactive maps to post for each day. If you want see any part of route you can visit my Nokia Sports Tracker profile anytime:) Route is tracked with amazing details – you can see where I was waiting for something and makin’ circles or where and how I was discovering some smaller paths, looking for a place to stay… everything.
You are welcome to take a part in ours trip once again – one day on the road=one note here. Maybe this report will inspire someone like Yazhubal’s blog inspired me, I thanked him many times and I know I will also thank in future;)
We are starting again right now…
