24.06.2009 - first day of my official holidays, since morning reserved for mounting and filling up bicycle bags, finding place for tent and sleeping pad which I bought in last moment. I planned to leave my apartment at 17:00 but I made it half hour later because there was not enough time for preparations.Weather in Poznań was terrifying – heavy rain with strong wind – bicyclist nightmare. When I tried to take bicycle out of apartment I was surprised by its weight, I just couldn’t imagine how I will move on polish railway stations with stairs alone! I thought that I will even won’t move. Somehow I’ve started and go straight across the city (in the rainproof jacket – the only time for whole trip!) from Piątkowo at north through city centre to Ramya’s student house in southern part on the way to Górczyn where we have to mount boot for her bike.
It was a little stressful when we realized how much time left, train was on 19:50, from students house was few kilometers but we finally finished using some provisional methods:P We both bought on railway station tickets for everybody, than met Asia and Ola. We take last wagon in train to Inowrocław. 3 bicycles are in but mine had to stay in lobby with 4 nice beer drinkers so I decided to stay with my bicycle and hold it.
Schedule on the net showed that we will have two trains just after arriving to Inowrocław, so it was hard to make on one. Conductors said that there is no train:P Only economy class but it will stop for few hours on the way (we know about that one). But on the station we saw that we have express in one hour so we bought tickets without rush and than try to get in to it because there was no peoples, wagons so empty and quiet. Some how we fit in two small lobbys (no free space for bicycles in express) but first conductor told us to move everything to any free passenger room. During whole operation we was so mad than stopped and ask another conductor to let us stay because this is impossible with all these bags. We split during this action, somehow Asia and Ola fit in to some room and there take a nap but Ola and I wait until 3:15 when we arrived to Gdynia.
So we start to pedaling!:) I loved my heavy bicycle and get use to it so it was nice to ride a little. We get out of train and carry all bikes of the stairs – weight wasn’t already a problem – it just couldn’t be:P So we start up GPS, destination: McDonald:P we are arriving …closed. Second also, KFC the same after dozen kilometers, whole city was sleeping like even Poznan isn’t! Some asked lady prompt us some shop which was also closed.
That is why we are going straight to harbor, it’s 5:30 AM, we are crossing some usual streets and instantly feel fresh smells form bakery/confectionery, Ramia started to dreaming at loud and when she saw a confectioner in the window she shouted to him (at nearly 6 AM:P) “I love those smells!” …in result he told us to came to him, opened a shop and during some talk gave us a lot of fresh small cakes and still warm pie. We told him about ours plan and he told that many Swedish people is his customers also:) We ate as much as we could and decided to came back here! In real world there is not many so nice and helpful people. Now we really go straight to ferry terminal but its raining so badly! I even started to doubt in the weather in Sweden deeply in my thoughts:/ But I still was self-willing that in southern Sweden must by shiny now.
In the Stena Line terminal where we bought tickets we used from two promotions – one for cyclist with way back option in 14 days period plus because we was consisting of 4 peoples …they made us a family:P That is why ferry was half priced and we got rooms with baths, on the way back in one of the highest standards (see view window and higher quality inside). Perfect.
We have to get on ferry like all cars, not like passengers does. That is why we came back outside on 7:50, it still rains. Check out is year by year easier – now we don’t need even IDs, we wait with others cars and trucks in lines. But someone is waving to us using his walkie-talkie and shows that we can pass by all cars event those who extra paid for first places;). Another man shows us way on the ramp and the gate is open for us, now we can get on the highest floor without a hurry, than cross whole ship to its end where is special place for bicycles. We are taking most important things and go to higher floors to check in to our room before 10 h ferry – we feel like in late night time but it is 8:30 AM! We live in completely abstract time zone, some shower, little supper and fall in to sleep.
Officially we finished “ours first day” right now, trip just started, since now photos will be more interesting and …sunny;)
